Product Description

Worn, placed on a desk or as part of a meditation session, rose quartz tumbled stones can be used in different ways. Initially, it was a stone known as “quaterz” which means “bad ore” until the 16th century. However, other hypotheses suggest that its name actually refers to the German word “gewärz” meaning “germ” or “outgrowth”. In the Bronze Age, several Middle Eastern civilisations used rose quartz to preach Astarte, the goddess of fertility, love and war. According to the Greek mythology, this stone is even considered to be the origin of Aphrodite. Nowadays, rose quartz is also called azetulite, lodolite, conite, azeztulite, konolite or dragonite. Belonging to the family of silicates, this stone is mainly composed of silicon dioxide with SiO2 as formula. It is in fact a silicate stained by various elements such as aluminium, manganese, phosphorus or titanium when it is transparent enough. Its relatively cloudy appearance is however caused by the presence of some microscopic inclusions of dumortierite.

Depending on the proportion of its components, the colour of rose quartz ranges from a slightly pale pink hue to a rather peachy tone. This mineral is mainly formed in magmatic rocks such as pegmatite, and sometimes in thermal springs. It is consequently displayed as translucent microcrystals or imposing crystals. These crystals are then cut, polished or sculpted for decorative purposes, for jewellery or as part of a collection. The main deposits of rose quartz are found in Madagascar and Brazil, but it is also possible to find such stones in Tanzania and the United States. Furthermore, in Europe, Poland offers centimetre-sized groups of crystals
